Back in September, I visited Linda Restaurant located within Shops at Don Mills with group of people to celebrate Thai Select Premium Launch. Thai Select or Thai Select Premium certification identifies Thai restaurants that offers at least 60% authentic Thai foods on their menu. This also shows that the restaurant practices same or similar cooking methods that is used in Thailand, using ingredients from Thailand. However, do keep in mind that this certification only shows authenticity of the restaurant- not the food itself or quality. Bangkok Garden, Golden Thai, Mengrai Gourmet Thai are couple other Thai restaurants in GTA that was picked to be part of Thai Select Premium program.

Linda Restaurant is part of Thai Select Premium Program, which indicates a degree of excellence of 5 star or higher. This is given to restaurants that scored 85 or higher with authentic, quality Thai food. Honestly, I didn't even know there was a Thai restaurant in Shops at Don Mills. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a spacious, nicely decorated Thai restaurant located at such an awesome location.

Singha beer, official beer of Thailand and some coconut water to start!

Here are some of the dishes I got to try

Mieng Kum

* Linda's signature appetizer, meaning "many things in one bite"
* This was something new I got to try
* Basically you wrap little bit of everything using a leaf and eat it all together
* With dried shrimp, chili pepper, peanuts and red onion topped off with sauce
* This was quite refreshing and fun to eat

Pla Tu Nam Prik

* Crispy fish with dipping sauce
* Crispy makerel eaten with a spicy dipping sauce
* This was super crispy you could even eat the bones because it's deep fried

Chicken and Shrimp Larb (Lettuce wrap)

* Lettuce wrap with cashew, vermicelli, water chestnuts and nam prik pao
* This was just your ordinary lettuce wrap, great way to start a meal

Modern Mango Salad

* Mango salad with Ontario greens and aromatic Asian vegetables

Tom Yum Soup with Mushrooms

* Served with snoki, beech and maitake mushrooms

Crispy Beef Panang

* Crispy and tender beef brisket in Panang curry
* This was my favorite out of all the main dishes
* Curry was rich in flavor and the beef brisket was melt in your mouth

Red snapper with Rustic chili sauce

* Whole fried red snapper with garlic, yellow bean and chili sauce
* I tried whole fish dishes when I was travelling in Thailand and it tasted quite similar
* Perfect with a bowl of rice

Stewed duck with chestnuts

* duck stewed in red rice wine sauce with chestnuts
* This tasted very Chinese if anything
* Duck was cooked very tender and the chestnuts were a nice touch
* Def a sharing type of dish with 4 people or more

Pineapple Yellow Curry (Vegetarian)

* Pineapple, vegetables, in a sweet yellow curry blended with coconut

Royal Pad Thai

Chocolate Lava Cake with Thai tea caramel and coconut ice cream

* I loved their dessert, lava cake was so moist and Thai tea caramel was so good I almost licked my plate
* Coconut ice cream is custom made at Marble slab and it was very creamy

Summary: I've travelled to Thailand before and enjoyed their food very much. They focus on using simple, fresh ingredients and brings out the best flavor in each dish. I think Thai Select is a great program where it give an idea to people who are interested in Thai food, that pad thai and coconut curry isn't the end with Thai cuisine. I've enjoyed some of the dishes I got to try at Linda and will def be back!
