I didn't even know Cava existed, it's hidden away in a little plaza close to St.Clair Ave W and Yonge. It was back in December and my friend suggested we check out Cava for my birthday dinner. She's already been many times and claimed it was one of her favorite restaurant so I was excited to try it out. The restaurant itself isn't very big but is quite spacious with comfortable dining tables. My friend and I were seated at the bar which worked out at the end because it had better lighting for photos.

For drinks I wanted a glass of wine and asked for recommendation because I couldn't find Riesling on their drinks menu. And they ended up opening a bottle of Riesling for me, which I really appreciated :)

Ordered: Supergilda 3/5

* This was my first time trying this properly
* Jalepeno pepper and the green olive was def necessary to clean my tongue in between
* It wasn't as salty as I thought it'd be
* Overall very nice presentation, $4.95 each piece

Ordered: Pincho of Gamay poached Foie Gras with Quince Mostarda 5/5

* This was strongly recommended by my friend and I am glad I listened to her
* It was indeed one of the best foie gras I've had in my life
* It was rich and creamy and didn't have any off gamey scent/taste
* For $8.95 each piece, it is def a treat
* If you love foie, this is a must get and you won't regret it

Ordered: Cava Charcuteria 4/5

* Beef bresaola, summer sausauge, chicken liver & foie mousse served with bread and pickles for $17.50
* Beef bresaola was soaked in red wine, it went perfectly with mustard and multigrain bread
* Summer sausage was soft and easy on palette
* Chicken liver and foie mousse was to die for
* Liver taste wasn't too strong and it was very creamy
* They were quite generous with the portion
* Bread is toasted and served with pickles and jalepeno pepper

Ordered: Seared sea scallops with smoked parsnip puree and french lentils 4/5

* 3 pieces of scallop for $23.00
* Perfectly seared outside and soft inside
* Lentil beans were nice touch which added some texture
* Parsnip puree was slightly sweet which complimented the scallop pieces

Ordered: 48 hour beef brisket with white puree and chimichurri 2/5

* This wasn't as special as I thought it'd be maybe because other dishes were so outstanding
* Brisket is never as tender as I expect it to be
* It was good, but nothing too memorable
* Chimichurri on the side added some interesting flavor to this dish, $22.00

Ordered: Churros Con Chocolate 2/5

* This is served with dipping chocolate sauce for $8.00
* Churros were disappointing because it was a little too soft and soggy inside
* I liked the caramel sauce on top but not the chocolate sauce on the side
* Chocolate sauce wasn't sweet enough to be a dessert for me

Ordered: Honeycrisp Tarte with bacon brisee and ginger cardamon icecream 3/5

* My friend ordered this dessert, $10.00
* Although I usually enjoy the crust part of apple pies, this was overall very enjoyable from every aspect
* Apple was cooked perfectly drenched in caramel sauce that was just sweet enough
* Ice cream on the side has huge ginger pieces, very strong in flavor
* It complimented the tart by balancing out the sweetness

Complimentary chocolate (Chili & Vanilla and Salted Earl Grey) to end off our meal

Summary: I loved my meal at Cava, food was on the spot and service was excellent. Since I wasn't too used Spanish tapas, our waiter literally explained the entire menu for us. Cava would be perfect for a date or a girls night out, I would def be back for that foie!

Did you go next door to check out XocoCava, their chocolate/dessert stall? They offer liquid hot chocolate, along with churros to dip (just like the ones you had). They also have chocolate squares, made with olive oil and other wild ingredients. Also, Guinness ice cream!
I also like their paprika fries and popcorn appetizer dishes .. ok, should not be checking blogs at 10am in the morning. Hungeeee.
